Welcome To Alexei Ramirez.net
Known as the "the Cuban Missile due to his combination of speed and power" Alexei Fernando Ramírez was born September 22, 1981 in Pinar del Río, Cuba. And plays as a Major League Baseball second baseman and center fielder for the Chicago White Sox.
His first 7 years as a pro in the Cuban National Series, Ramírez spent most of his time playing shortstop and outfield for Pinar del Rio. Hitting and throwing his way to a batting average of .335 in Cuba, and led the league in 2007 with 20 home runs while posting a .338 average. Ramírez played center field for Cuba at the 2006 World Baseball Classic, collecting 6 hits in 16 at-bats and causing US baseball scouts to stand up and take notice in the process. Leaving Cuba in September 2007 applying for citizenship in the Dominican Republic so he could gualifiy to play Major League Baseball to enter free agency. He auditioned for many baseball teams before coming to an agreement on a four year contract with the Chicago White Sox on December 21, 2007. He hits his first Major League home run on May 16, 2008. For Alexei Ramírez he was no in the majors and was ready to make the best of this opportunity.
Hitting his first career grand-slam on July 22, 2008 against the Texas Rangers. On September 20, 2008, Ramirez hit his third grand slam of the season while playing in a game against the Kansas City Royals in a 9-4 White Sox win. Tying an American League rookie record set by Shane Spencer of the New York Yankees in 1998. It was the Chicago White Sox's eleventh grand slam of the 2008-09 season, tying the club record set in 2006.[1]
But Alexei Ramírez was not done yet because on September 29, 2008, Ramirez hit his fourth grand slam of the season, setting a major-league single-season record for the most grandslams by a rookie off of Detroit Tigers pitcher Gary Glover In an 8-2 Sox victory to qualify the Sox for a one-game playoff against the Minnesota Twins for the AL Central title. Now that he holds the team record for most grand slams in a single season, he can't wait to prove himself further as a true great of the game as he gets ready for the 2009-10 baseball season
Power hitting is just one of the many talents this young start posses. His speed on the field is second to none. He seems to make the play no matter where the ball is hit. Often he seems to out run the ball with ease and with the close plays he leaps into the air and arrives just as the ball seems uncatchable. His speed on the bases seemed to only improve throughout the 2008-09 season as pitchers found out. Although not a overwhelming stolen base threat with his 13 stolen base for the year he was fleet footed enough to cause pitchers concern. His stolen base productivity is surly going to improve.

More To Come In 2009
