Computer Aid Reviews
Windows 8
If you are thinking about
installing Windows 8 when it first comes out please
read the following. The public release version of
Windows 8 will be able to upgrade Windows 7
computers to Windows 8 from your DVD and also from
within Windows 7 itself. However as with past
versions of Windows, Computer Aid suggests doing a
clean install rather than an upgrade installation.
From our own hands-on testing we have found once
again that Windows will give you much less trouble
if you perform a clean install. On the pre-public
release Computer Aid has found no way you can
reverse an installation once you have started the
process. So if you are thinking about doing an
un-recommended upgrade install from within Windows
7 and something goes wrong, then please be aware
that you cannot undo the installation. In the past
a lot of people have gotten used to doing this type
of install because it was easier than to back up
your data files. Nowadays it is much easier to back
up your files so please do so and perform a full
installation. From the testing we've done so far,
the developer preview of Windows 8 itself is pretty
reliable, but the same isn't true when doing an
upgrade install. Click

Megaupload.com Shut Down By Feds
Today
Added
1/19/2012
Just one day after a
nationwide online protests led by Google and
Wikipedia an indictment was unsealed by the
Justice Department accusing megaupload.com, a
file sharing website of copyright
infringement by allowing users to upload and
then download copyrighted materials
illegally. Although megaupload.com is based
in Hong Kong megaupload.com leased some
servers in Virginia that contained
copyrighted materials and that allowed the
Justice Department to request that Hong Kong
shut their servers down.
In the Justice Department
statement they said Kim Dotcom and several
other employees were arrested Thursday in New
Zealand at the request of US government
officials, and at least three other
defendants are being sought. Before
megaupload.com was taken down employees were
able to post a statement saying allegations
that it facilitated massive breaches of
copyright laws were grotesquely
overblown.
Computer Aid has in fact on
numerous occasions used megaupload.com
servers to store very large files legally to
allow Computer Aids customers to have easy
access to the same files. Computer Aid is
aware of many of its corporate customers also
legally using megaupload.com to do the same
thing. And the fact is that the majority of
megaupload.com's Internet traffic is
legitimate and a smaller percentage more than
likely is used for copyrighted
materials.
It is suspected after Computer
Aid today spoke with a Justice Department
official who stated that the Department of
Justice Web server that hosts a number of
government websites including justice.gov is
currently seeing a very large increase of
activity resulting in a degradation in their
server being able to supply its own websites
to visitors, however this official also
stated that the department's IT consultants
are working diligently to ensure there is no
server downtime and are investigating whether
or not the increased activity is the result
of hack attacks in retaliation for the
indictment. The increase in server traffic is
being considered a malicious act until they
are able to identify if the increase in
server activity is from legitimate
traffic.
It is rather odd that the Justice Department would
choose to shut down megaupload.com just one day
after the above-mentioned online protest when
megaupload.com also is used to host many files by
many musical artist such as Alicia Keys, Kanye
West, REO speed wagon and others to legitimately
share videos by request. Megaupload.com also lists
Swiss Beatz as its CEO who is also married to
musician Alicia Keys. However he was not named in
any of the indictments. Online news reports have
also said Swizz Beatz has declined to make any
comment or release any statement about the
indictments against megaupload.com.
